The greenways site is the home of Greenways, Inc., a multidisciplinary environmental planning and landscape architectural firm that specializes in providing consulting services to government agencies, for-profit corporations and nonprofit organizations.

Greenways Inc. has done work across the country, but are currently involved in a good number of North Carolina projects, and worked with the Town of Carrboro as detailed below.

The Town of Carrboro Bicycle Transportation Plan

In November of 2007, the Town of Carrboro commissioned with Greenways Incorporated to prepare a comprehensive bicycle transportation plan. The Town of Carrboro was selected by NCDOT as a recipient of the 2007 Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning Grant Program. This program matches funds from NCDOT with selected local municipalities to aid in improving bicycle and pedestrian planning efforts in North Carolina.

The Town of Carrboro has been on the leading edge of bicycle planning in North Carolina for nearly three decades, constructing their first bicycle lane in 1980 along Jones Ferry Road. Carrboro also holds the distinction of being the first municipality in North Carolina to be recognized by the League of American Bicyclists as a "Bicycle Friendly Community". Bicycles flourish in and around Carrboro due to compact development patterns, implemented facilities and the close proximity of UNC-Chapel Hill.

Greenways Incorporated will be working with Town staff, NCDOT staff, a steering committee and local residents to gain a better understanding of the needs to improve and provide a safe bicycling community for all.
